Live Free or Die

I was born in New Hampshire, the state with the motto, Live Free or Die. I’m kind of proud of that motto. Why? Because it’s how I try to live my life.

To me, Live Free or Die, doesn’t mean what you might think. I’m not a right-wing patriot. I don’t stock guns. I do love the First Amendment and my freedom of expression.

You hear people complain about America, about how we’re losing our freedoms. But as long as I can speak my mind and share my creative works, I’m living free. The day I’m told that I’m no longer allowed to voice my opinion, to take down my website, to unpublish my books, might be the day I’d choose to die.

Life isn’t perfect. We struggle to survive at times. But we’ve got it a lot better than much of the population of this world.

Whether or not you were born in New Hampshire, I invite you to embrace the motto when it comes to creativity and free speech. Live Free or Die. – dse
