Lingering

Okay, I said I’d be keeping personal stuff to a minimum here, and I’m trying. But did you ever have a lingering feeling that something is about to go wrong? I’m pretty sure most of us have.

My life has been split in two. There’s my old world in Washington State, and the new world in Maine. Things have been good on the East Coast so far. It’s not always easy with such a big transition, but it’s gone fairly well. Still, that lingering feeling returns.

Let’s consider how this relates to creativity. Quite simple.

Do you often feel like what you’re creating isn’t quite right, like there’s something missing? Yep. Me too. Or do you feel like you’re not good enough, that other writers, musicians, artists have something you don’t and you’re second rate?

It’s easy to feel like something is wrong with your creativity. When life has handed you a few lemons that lingering feeling often returns. It’s normal. It’s life. Nothing is certain.

All we can do is do our best and hope for the best.

It’s not wrong to pay some attention to that lingering feeling. Sometimes it’s a warning sign. But don’t put too much stock into negative energy. – dse
