Rodney Crowell’s “It Starts with a Song”

I’ve signed up to go back to the Rodney Crowell camp, “It Starts with a Song!”

I went last year and had a great time. My only major complaint is that it had to come to an end. It’s a fairly expensive event but I’ve decided to go again.

It’s being held in the same location as last year, the Scarritt Bennett Center, right off Music Row and next to Vanderbilt University. It happens August 21-24. I’m excited. My experience last year was great. This year there will be some returning teachers: Rodney Crowell, Beth Nielsen-Chapman, Lera Lynn, and Joe Henry. There will be a few new faces as well: John Hiatt, John Paul White, Bill Payne, and Gretchen Peters. It should be a great experience.

As a prolific songwriter it’s hard for me to decide what songs I’d like to showcase. I’m currently rehearsing a batch of 26 songs I’ve written on the ukulele since last year’s event. Still, as someone who’s written over 1000 songs, I might want to go back into my vault and pull out a few of my own “classics.” Perhaps a few blues, too. You can check some of my originals here. – dse
