Mannequin

i stand here uncertain and dumb,
modeling my heart and soul
for the masses of passersby.
my eyes have long since
lost their luster and my plastic skin
hides my spasmodic mind.

they dressed me in mourning,
black and purple with
no lipstick or foolish jewelry.
my head is bald and my
blood is curdled from
standing in the window so long.

someone stops to look every
once in awhile and I wonder
what it is they see?
everything that really matters
is trapped so deep inside,
and this greedy business
stole my voice.
