The End of the World

Life has been weird since COVID-19. There are days it feels like we’re heading straight into the end of the world. Of course, people have been making claims and predictions of the end of the world for centuries.

I’ve always liked the REM song “The End of the World As We Know It” because it’s prophetic. Here’s the truth. Whether the world is really ever going to end, we can’t say. But it ends as we know it every day, every minute. That’s a good thing.

When you understand that every moment is the end of something, you see that every moment can also be a new beginning. That’s why I love that song. Not because it’s a downer. It’s just the opposite. It gives me hope for the new: a new day, new creativity, new art. new love.

Yes, it’s the end of the world as we know it, (and I feel fine). – dse
