Love Is Why

I ask myself why about a lot of things. Creativity is one of those things. Why am I creative? If my creativity never brings much income or praise, why do I continue to be creative? Why?

There is no easy answer to this question, but there is one good answer.

Love.

Are there days when I feel like giving up on making music, writing, art?

Yes.

Sometimes, it all seems pointless. When I was younger, my goal was to become a professional musician. After years of struggling in vain to be seen and heard, it became obvious that fame was like winning the lottery. So I wrote a book. Strike two. Started a blog. Strike three. Then I gave it all up for the sake of art, for the sake of love.

Love is why I make music. I love music. Love is why I write. I love words and being creative with words. It’s what I do.

There are still days I ask myself why I keep creating. What’s the point? Sure, I have a small following. I sell a few books and some music from time to time. Still, the chances of my work becoming extremely lucrative financially grows slimmer with age. So why?

Love is why. – dse
