You always hear people say it. I did a thing. Well, it’s my turn. I did a thing.
You all know that as well as writing experimental electronic music, poetry, and books, that I’ve been a life-long songwriter. At least that’s what I’ve told you. I still haven’t posted any of my songs here. That will be changing soon. In the meantime, you’ll just have to trust me.
Back to the thing. The one I did.
I was scrolling on Facebook a couple of weeks ago when I came across a post about a songwriter’s camp. It wasn’t just any camp. This camp is put on by Rodney Crowell. If you don’t know who that is, Google him. I spent a week deliberating, as the price is fair, but a good chunk of change. I decided to do it.
The camp is called It Starts with a Song and it takes place at the Vanderbilt campus in Nashville this August. I’m so excited that I wrote several new songs that I think are some of my best. You’ll likely see more about those songs soon.
I don’t have high expectations about getting famous or even making important connections to the music business while I’m at the camp. I’ve decided to simply go to learn and have a fun experience. Hanging out with Rodney Crowell, Roseanne Cash, Neko Case, and a host of other musical professionals might be pretty cool, too. And if some good connections are made, so be it. – dse
