He Called Himself Michael the Archangel but He Was Born to Destroy

On May 2, 2021, I released what I like to believe is one of my better works as an artist. He Called Himself Michael the Archangel but He Was Born to Destroy is not a pretty collection of music. In fact, the entire album is noisy, discordant, and disturbing, and rightly so.

This release was so different from anything else I’d recorded that I decided to use a new alias, “A Cult of Lies.” There’s a story behind both the alias and the album.

As a child, I was the victim of an extremely religious and abusive cult. I’ve spent years wrestling with the demons of my past. I wrote a book about my experience. A Train Called Forgiveness is available at Amazon.

Though the intensity has diminished, I’ve struggled with the ghosts and voices of my childhood experience my entire life. He Called Himself Michael is simply one more way to express the emotional turmoil and anguish of that life-altering experience. – dse
