I’m a strong believer in journaling. I’ve journaled for most of my life. But keeping a journal isn’t always what you might think.
I have a box full of old paper journals, but I really only journaled in that traditional sense for about 10-15 years. Yet, I’ve actually been journalling regularly since I was a ten-year-old kid. I’ve just used a variety of writing formats.
Writing songs, poems, books, and online essays are all types of journaling. Yes, you’re reading a journal entry. It’s not advice. It’s just me describing how keeping a journal has made my life better.
Writing has helped me through some of the hardest experiences in my life. It’s also let me express the most joyous events. My journals have even helped me in legal proceedings.
Putting one’s thoughts and feelings on record is therapeutical. It helps us to release the bad and to be grateful for the good. I don’t write using pen and paper on a daily basis anymore. Still, I continue to journal through poetry, short essay, and song most every day. – dse
