In February, 2021, I experimented with creating music at night. There was a practical reason for the project. I’m a father to a teenaged daughter. She had reached an age where she liked to sneak out at night. So I changed my own schedule to stay up at night and sleep during the day. Every night during the month of February, I spent the midnight hour creating a piece of music. At the end of the month I had 28 pieces. I figured I’d use half of them and create a single album.
The day after I released the first 11-track album, I continued to listen back to the remaining compositions. I spent a little time tweaking some of the pieces, but every track on both albums of The Quiet Hour is essentially something originally created at the midnight hour.
Two albums and 24 tracks in total, The Quiet Hour was an experiment in writing music in the dead of night when most of the world is sleeping. – dse
