Distractions

It’s so easy to be distracted from our work. At the end of 2023, I wrote a post about wasting time, and how one goal I would set for 2024 is to stop wasting time. Yet, I’ve spent hours looking up new possible domain names in the last two weeks.

Why? Because in my mind, it’s the next website, the next blog (which I’ve sworn off), that’s going to be the one that works, the one that gains a larger audience for my work. What I really should be doing is focusing on this site.

It’s true that I might not have a narrow niche, but that’s part of who I am. I’m a writer, a poet, and a musician. I’m a thinker and a minimalist. I’d love to have a website for each thing that I do. But unless I have help operating them all and they’re making money, it seems that multiple sites would be distractions.

I want to get my creative work seen and heard. I want to help others learn about creativity while sharing my own work. I want to share my story of forgiveness and healing. Everything else should go into the distractions category.

If you’re a creator, be careful. Try not to let distractions pull you away from your primary work. Focus on what you do. Focus on improvement. You’ll be better for it. – dse
