Rolling with the Changes

Yes, this is another life update. Why do I include life updates on my site about my creative works? Because it has everything to do with what, when, and how I might create in the future. For now, I’m just doing my best to keep rolling with the changes.

I’ve taken on a new job with the United States Post Office as a city mail carrier. I’m only a week into my training, but so far, so good. As for longterm, time will tell. But if I work for the USPS for any length of time, it will have great impact on my creative output. I’ll be working more and creating less.

My music, books, poetry, and songs are not generating much income, so it’s really not practical at this point to continue to take time to push them in that direction. I’ve been trying to get my creative works seen and heard for the last 35 years with little success. And now I’m running into the dirty little secret of ageism.

I’m going to focus on the practical for a while.

I’m not giving up on my creative ventures. I’ve just released a new track by A Cult of Lies last week. But I’ll be putting more effort into making more money, adding a more to my retirement, and paying off my mortgage. I don’t know if I’ll cut it as a mail carrier. But in any case, I will likely have future opportunity with the USPS in some capacity if I choose.

I don’t know if I’ll work hard for another year and then start collecting social security, or if I’ll stick it out another five or more years. Only time will tell. I have a health condition, and I still have a desire to do some traveling before I check out of this world.

In the meantime, there will be less time to create. And that means that I might pick and choose what and how I create more deliberately. That could actually be a good thing, leading to more carefully produced work.

For now, I’m just rolling with the changes. – dse
