Spaciousness

When I created this new website, I had to pick a theme template. I spent a couple of weeks trying to decide upon one. I went back and forth between eight or nine different themes, then I narrowed it down to three or four. Finally, I deliberated between two themes for several days. This theme won because it had a greater sense of spaciousness.

I used to call myself a minimalist, but it’s really spaciousness that I love. There’s something calming and beautiful about all things spacious. What I love about this theme is the spacious typography. It’s art in itself.

My love for the quality of spaciousness is also ever-present in my musical compositions. Much of Anderhill’s music is written using drones and sounds that create a sense of wide open space. That sound can create a relaxing and meditative quality.

Consider geography. Would you prefer to have the view of a crowded city, or would you prefer sweeping views of the ocean or prairie? Which would make you feel more at peace, at ease? For me it’s the spacious landscapes that come out on top. The same goes for a home. I’d much rather have four simple pieces of furniture in a room than a bunch of excess and clutter.

Spaciousness begets creativity. I find it harder to write and create if my surroundings are overly cluttered or closed in. A cluttered space makes for a cluttered mind.

One of my goals in becoming a better writer is to improve in the art of spaciousness: to write more meaning while using less words. – dse
