What I Really Want

it’s not money,
although money might help.
it’s not sex or drugs or rock & roll.
what i really want is much more simple
and complex.

i don’t want a fast car,
although I do want the freedom to roam.
i don’t want a job at Cabela’s
selling Chinese-made shoes.
i don’t want to write a 10-page syllabus
just to teach a class.

what i really want is a little space
and autonomy
without the clutter of this world
inching its way in on me
every single day.

what i really want is peace
and quiet
and fun and excitement
when i choose.
i want to come and go
on my own terms
and without worry.

is that too much to ask?

oh, and i don’t want any more drama,
politics, or religion,
passive-aggressive assholes,
bullies, gaslighters, tailgaters,
or manipulators.

what i really want is to
simply live life
with little strife,
to never quit.
what i really want is to
transcend the bullshit.

is that too much?
